8. Which chairs?
Upholstered chairs are the best choice for comfort. Wood chairs are practical and easier to keep clean, but can feel hard if you spend a lot of time at the table, while cane and rush contain a natural padding. 7. What is the best table top finish?
Solid wood can be finished in a variety of ways. French polish gives a table that old-fashioned boardroom gleam but repairs will be expensive. If you have a busy household a lacquered finish will be the most durable just needing a light dusting with a soft cloth. However, if the finish gets damaged, you can’t repair it yourself. For example, an open plan kitchen diner will have to co-ordinate with kitchen units, and if it will be used for everyday family meals choose a table top that is hardwearing.
