Interior Design: Where do I start?
The first thing to think about when creating a new room design is to think about what you will use the room for? A living room isn’t used in the same way for everyone – do you watch TV, read a book or practice yoga? Do you entertain guests or children? The use needs to be the priority, and the design should be around that.
Next you need to think about a an interior design theme that will bring the room together, whether it’s a colour, style or pattern from a cushion or wallpaper which can be extended to items in the rest of the room.
Chose your focus, whether it’s a certain piece of furniture or an area in the room which you want to highlight with a colour or dramatic lighting.
Do some research on the theme and have a look at what’s available. Take you’re time and make sure you choose pieces which reflect you. Remember the furniture doesn’t have to match entirely – for example it doesn’t have to be the same colour wood throughout a room or the same classic or contemporary design, as long as all the pieces relate to the theme.
Then just get on and start making your dream room come to life!
Remember if you chose a very dramatic colour or pattern, it’s better to have just a small area and make the rest of the room more neutral not to over clutter the room design and to allow the eye to focus on your main feature.
